E very year the Newspaper Association of America hosts the Advertising Circulation and Marketing Excellence (ACME) Awards competition to recognize newspapers across the continent for their innovative promotion ideas. After the awards are given, books containing the winners' and finalists' projects are distributed to NAA members, so others can learn from the winners' successes. For the seventh year in a row, we took what used to be an ungainly series of four 500-page spiral bound printed books, and instead created a slick and attractive CD-ROM showcase. Not only did this save a substantial amount on shipping costs, but it made for a more informative product that was fun and easy to use. Plus, members can see and hear award-winning TV and radio commercials which were impossible to include in a printed format, and they can print whichever pages they want. Another example of new media solving a communications challenge better than the old ways.
Each of the winners is also highlighted on a 40"x60" poster produced and printed by Advance Concepts to be displayed at the national conference. |
